Quail, California (Callipepla californica brunnescens) - 18 Jan 07 - Hawkes Bay, NZ near the Otatara Pa Maori fortification. Male and female. Another of the introduced species. According to my NZ bird book the "...NZ birds seem most like brunnescens, perhaps hybridised with californicus."
