Scaup, New Zealand, male (Aythya novaeseelandiae) - 13 Jan 07 - Queenstown, NZ on Lake Wakapitu. According to my NZ book this is an uncommon bird, but I saw them on lakes and rivers near towns. Apparently it has made a great comeback since the book was published.
