Birds of the Galapagos and Machu Picchu Trip
August 2009
Coronet, Buff-tailed (Boissonneaua flavescens) - 8 Aug 09 - at feeders at Bellavista Cloud Forest Reserve northwest of Quito, Ecuador. One of the most numerous hummers seen. The forehead flashes bright electric green (inset) when the light hits it just right. The amount of speckling on the breast and chest varied and may have been due to molting or being a juvenile.
