Our morning activity was a visit to the Darwin Research Station in Puerto Ayora on the southern shore of Santa Cruz. This is the home of Lonesome George the last surviving Pinta Island subspecies of the Galápagos Tortoise. Here he appears to be prostrate with exhaustion. Our guide, Sophia, said (tongue in cheek) that it was from recent sex. They are trying to breed him with a female from the most closely related subspecies.
